AHS CONSTRUCTION FAQ
Updated August 30, 2007
When does construction end? The project is behind schedule, and the building will not be opened this school year. Originally, the completion date was November of 2007. The district has now negotiated a June 30, 2008 completion date; an added seven months.
What are recent developments? The cafetorium renovation is out to bid and will begin in September. We opened school without use of the cafeteria and are serving at the gym snackbar and the pool area kiosks. Cafeteria renovation includes: remodel the bathrooms, reconfigure the serving space, update the kitchen, convert the backstage area, build in storage for ASB classroom setting, and increase student seating. Work on the cafeteria will take six months.
What are we building? The completed new tennis courts, home stands and press box in the stadium, softball fields, and parking lot were all part of phase 1. The swimming pool and outside basketball court are complete and an early part of phase 2. The remainder of phase 2 includes:
What has been done? Improved road and traffic pattern in/out of campus, improved stadium bleachers and press box, new softball fields, new tennis courts, and new pool. The pool is 31.5 m x 25 yds x 12 ft deep with 500,000 gallons of water.
What about the fake field? Great news! Work will end soon and the project will be completed for the first home game vs. Pacific Grove on September 21 st . That money was privately raised – it is not part of the bond project dollars. It's not too late to contribute by purchasing a legacy brick for $250. Will parking change? Part of the upper staff lot is already fenced off for the construction, and we're not getting any more parking than we currently have. Any fenced area is NOT a staff or student area and is considered out of bounds. Partner permits (sr/sr/, sr/jr, jr/jr) may park in the designated areas of the staff lot. Single permits park on Mariner Way, upper and lower stadium lots, and baseball lot in designated spaces. No student parking on Port Place, staff spaces or visitor spaces. The parking permit prices of $50 has funded (and will continue to fund) improvements in the stadium lot (gravel and paving). Because of space, no sophomores may buy a permit or park on campus.
