The beginning course emphasizes oral comprehension and evokes from the student both physical and verbal responses to spoken Spanish. This course is conducted almost exclusively in Spanish, including oral practice and daily reading and writing assighnments. A class project is assigned each quarter and a class notebook is required. The students who succesfully complete the course can understand and respond to elementary Spanish, as well as read, write, listen and speak with accents acceptable to native listeners.
