· DREAMS & MYTHS (Year) Grade Level: 11-12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of English 3-4. Students will study dreams and myths as they relate to the great literature of the world. The first semester is divided into male and female hero journeys, including Gilgamesh (the oldest romance, adventure myth in history), When The Legends Die (the hero journey of a young Ute Indian) and various stories and plays of female heroes. The second semester is structured around longer works, such as, the myth of the Theseus in The King Must Die and Demian, a novel which deals extensively with dreams. Students must expect to read 5-6 novels or plays per semester and to work on various kinds of writing.
