· English 1 - GHO Global Health Odyssey Prerequisite: Recommendation of 8th grade teacher and parent This course is required for all Advanced and SDAIE students. This is a writing intensive, combination writing/literature/current events based course. Much of the required materials from the standard 1-2 English class including To Kill a Mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet, Jim Watson's The Double Helix and use Microbe Hunters, Walter Reed's biography, or other suitable choices for the biography will be used. A mythology unit will include a combination of Western myths and other cultural folktales concerning origins, technology, and natural balances. The course will also include a tradition of songs and poems about the human body throughout history. Assessments and creative writing will utilize poetry and song in various forms.
