· ENGLISH LITERATURE (Year) Grade Level: 11-12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of English 2. This is a traditional College Prep. Literature/Writing Survey Course which follows a thematic chronological outline of British culture through their literature. Various genres (poetry, novel, drama, nonfiction, and short fiction) as well as intermediate to advanced levels of writing are studied. The writing focus is based upon that which began in English 1-2 and English 3-4, but on a more advanced and technically refined level. Students will read many major classical to modern literary works (Chaucer, Shakespeare, Wilde, Conrad, etc.) and will use a variety of styles and forms of written expression, including a research project. Students will develop their writing abilities in preparation for college and will develop a generalized understanding of English literary forms, types, and styles.
