· FANTASY LITERATURE (Year) Grade Level:: 11-12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of English 2 This course is offered as an alternative literature course designed to enable students to do recreational reading in an area that is of interest to them. It is designed for avid readers who are interested in learning about the fantasy and science fiction explosion in book and films which features works of the creative imagination. Serious study will include the following books: Dandelion Wine, A Wizard of Earthsea, Dragonsong, The Fellowship of the Ring, Dune, and Till We Have Faces. The study of archetypal figures and themes will figure importantly into our analysis of this literature. Students will practice various modes of written expression, including narratives, poetry, "quickwrites," and different modes of essay writing.
